What do I need to bring to my lessons?

An approved standard hat must be worn. It’s always best to have your own hat, but while your getting to grips with those first few lessons we can supply a riding hat (this is free of charge).

Long riding boots or jodhpur boots, or a strong pair of boots that cover the ankle and have a smooth sole and heel should be worn. The ankles can become rubbed and sore if in contact with the stirrup and leathers. A small but defined heel on the boot is necessary to prevent the foot slipping through the stirrup iron. Trainers should not be worn as they offer little protection and can easily become stuck in the stirrup. Wellington boots are also discouraged.

Other equipment: A pair of sturdy, but not bulky, gloves are advisable to help avoid blisters while getting used to the reins.

Jodhpurs (trousers designed for riding) are useful but for beginner riders, a pair of strong trousers without a seam on the inside leg will be fine (a seam can pinch your leg while in the saddle).

A long sleeved shirt, a jacket that is fastened so that it doesn’t flap, or a sweatshirt are recommended.

Back protectors are compulsory for jumping lessons. They can be worn for beginner and flat work lessons if you choose to.

How old do children need to be to start riding?

We take children for lessons from 4 years old. Children under 4 are able to participate in lead sessions at the discretion of the centre.

Do you have a variety of horses and ponies?

We have a great selection of hand picked quality horses and ponies, chosen for there suitability and temperament. Our horses' welfare is paramount and they have regular vet visits, back checks, dental care and tack fittings to keep them in tip top condition.

How do I book a lesson?

Just give us a ring (01889 589 132) and tell us what you would like to do.

Payment of your first lesson will be taken up front, after that you can pay as you go.

Question 5

Do I need a back protector?

Accepted Answer

Back protectors are compulsory for jumping lessons.

You may wear a back protector for flat work sessions if you choose.

Are the instructors qualified?

Accepted Answer

We have a selection of lovely, friendly qualified instructors up to the level of BHS II. All our instructors are first aid trained, hold a current safe guarding qualification and are DBS checked.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

If you are unable to make your lesson for any reason, give us a ring (01889 589 132 ) and let us know that you can’t make it, or leave a message.

Please try to let us have at least 24 hours notice. Any on the day cancellations are charged the full lesson amount.

Do you have a weight limit?

Yes, due to the size and build of the horses we currently have our weight limit is 13 stone. Our riding simulator has a weight limit of 15 stone.

Private lessons can be booked at a time to suit you, providing we have availability.
